Artist Statement:
“There is not really any serious organizing principal behind this exhibit except my interest in how colors appear and how they combine. I love to just look into some colors. That is where this series began. Then it headed back to the neutrals – maybe that is always my destiny. The neutrals along with black and white seem to be, in the end, what attract me the most.
I love the way Helen Frankenthaler uses color. She is an influence. And Pat Steir – although there are no drips in these pieces, her work attracts me. I think my appreciation of the random drops of color in my paintings come from looking at her work. As far as the origin of “Rain Drops”, the hanging pieces in motion, kinetic artist Tim Prentice is a master, an inspiration and one of my favorite artists.
The silver leaf on DuraLar is like an old friend. I’ve used it as a material for a long time and I always love it – with or without the black marks on the surface. The silver leaf pieces mounted on the wall provide what I think of as a Japanese design element – another strong influence.
So, this rather eclectic grouping of artwork is united by – what I like to look at.”
