I LOVE BOOKS
a gallery talk with Ann Whitney and Barbara Brown
Sunday, July 14, 2013 2:00 pm
Ann Whitney has been a book lover all of her life. Her oldest book is a volume of a cheap romance published in the 1700’s. It is bound in leather and very trashy. She has no idea how the story ends because she doesn’t have the next volume.
For Ann, libraries and used bookstores are places of peace and happiness. She has been an on-again, off-again Ann Arbor resident, and plans on staying that way for the rest of her life.
Her interest in history and art leads her to speculate on our relationship to books, in all their embodiments — from the tablets in the days of Hammurabi to the present day.
Barbara Brown has been a book artist for 20 years and a book lover all of her life.
She has taught book arts extensively, most recently at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, and exhibits in book arts and paper shows around the country. She is a member of WSG Gallery where she curates a book arts show every two years.
