WSG’s 16 + 16 Show

16+16

featuring the work of 40 artists

January 7 – February 15, 2014

About every year and a half WSG hosts an exhibit that is comprised of work by the member-owners and a guest each of us has invited.  The guest’s work can be of a vein similar to ours (sculpture, photography, etc.) or totally different.  A few of the artists are featured in this post, and I’ll add a few more next week.  So come back often!

Steve Coron

Steve Coron’s ‘Coldwater’ , a photograph of Lake Superior, greets visitors to the gallery with a show-stopping presence.  It’s about 3 1/2 x 4 feet and anchors the wall across from the entryway at WSG.  The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at U of M bought it – very fitting!

Shawn Skabelund, formerly of Ann Arbor, but now of Flagstaff, AZ, makes site-specific installation work, but shipped a couple of thought-provoking, visually stunning diptychs for the show:

Chris Lauckner, longtime gallery supporter, has a large painting of his friend Jan, curled up within the picture plane.  He walked it down to deliver it during a snowstorm!  Pay attention to his brush strokes and the patterns of her clothing.
