Artist’s Statement :

From Above.

“This small body of work represents my shift from making traditional landscape paintings that show the land and sky, viewed from the ground. I wanted to get away from that view, and expand the scale of my paintings. It is my intention that these pieces start a new way of communicating the vast scale I see. To get a new perspective I flew above the lower Great Lakes region, photographing the waterways, farms, suburbs, and roadways. This allowed me to see farther beyond the horizon line, suggesting greater distance in the picture plane.

Painting is my language. My paintings simply tell you what, and how, I see our natural environment. I do see pink in the ground and violet in the clouds, and my innate passion for color has directed me for awhile. Change is good, and these pieces show a shift, a different view, from above.”
